Good timezone Marchers! As the weather warms up in the northern lands, the aptly named “Winter Painting Competition” has come to an end, and the time has come to see what our formidable artists have cooked up during those dark, snowy, blizzardy, gloomy, dreadful days (I am a summer person okay).
For those who didn't know, the event was prompting artists in our Discord to paint some of our models every week over the course of a month, following a weekly theme. No less than 43 entries were submitted by 19 participants. In this blogpost, we wanted to showcase their wonderful work.
The Top 3
Our grand winner is Mr Hyatt, who blew us away in every category. Painting, presentation, creativity… everything was just spot on. Make sure to zoom into those pictures, because there sure is a lot going on!

Second comes Nimscraft, who also had very, very strong entries. I think that wounded soldier is my personal favourite overall. Excellent pictures with a really cool story going on, and a wonderful use of that failed print.

Third place was a bit tougher to attribute, because it meant leaving out so many good entries! In the end, we decided that guardians_eternal's work just couldn't go unrewarded, especially for that incredible diorama.

Honourable Mentions
There are three artists we wanted to feature separately for their commendable skills, even though they didn't make it to the final leaderboard: Landreth and his infantry regiment, Em and her Philippine National Guard, and Cole for his single entry but impressive 38M Franz Joseph Battle Tank.

But Wait, There's More!
I've already gone ahead and added most submissions to our Model Gallery, our brand new website page. I still need to add proper filters and credits for this, which will be quite a bit of work. Once it's done though, it will be a fantastic place to feature some of our models in their finest apparel!
Finally, as you may be aware, our rulebook is coming out soon. We're looking to include over a dozen entries from the competition in it (but don't quote me on this, we still have a few executive decisions to go through!).
And for that, whether you have won or not, a big thank you to all participants from the GDG team. Some of you have already expressed that the event helped you find the motivation to get your models painted, and I'm really pumped about that. I certainly hope that this kind of event will take place again in the future, and will be open to any suggestions for improvements or additions in the meantime.
Thank you for reading, and enjoy your spring/autumn time!
